CAR ON FREAKING FIRE!

Today Aaron and I decided that we would wash the mustang, drive it around a little and then put the new cover on it....as soon as we were done washing the car, I went to start it up and the battery was dead!

So we had to jump the car. We have done this MILLIONS of times before....my dad is a mechanic...this is second nature.

So we hook up the cables, and turn on my Honda Pilot to charge up the mustang...while it is running, we go to clean up the car washing supplies....I happen to look back, just to check on the cars and I notice that the Mustang is smoking...right near the battery. I am thinking, WTF? I tell Aaron and he goes to check on it and then seconds later the Honda Pilot catches FIRE! Seriously, the whole hood area was covered in flames! Aaron runs to turn the hose back on and I put out the fire...IT WAS FREAKING INSANE!...I have NEVER, EVER seen or have had this happen before.

The fire was out and I just kept hosing it...I didn't want it to catch again. Now...the cables are still on!...we have to take them off because they are live and still smoking...it could catch fire again.

We call my dad and he tells us step by step what to do...how to take them off...SAFELY! Aaron takes the cables off the mustang (they are hot!) and then asks me to hold them as he is taking off the others...they cannot touch...I am freaked out...don't want to hold the freaking things...scared some shit is going to blow up! I suck it up (as best I can) and he pulls the other cables off the Pilot battery. We are safe!

After checking out the cables and the batteries on both cars, it looks like the jumper cables caught fire...not the batteries or anything in the engine area...the fire just spread over the hood area from the cables...well...because fires spread quickly and there was a little wind that helped it along.

So now, we are thinking that Aaron might have put the cables on backward (negative/positives to wrong end) that caused it to do this...but not 100% sure since like I said, we do this all the time and really it is like second nature....we are always really careful about this. So we are also thinking that there could have been an issue with the jumper cables....We kept the cables so my dad can check them out tomorrow because he will be able to tell what happened by looking at the cables...so we are anxious to find out what the hell happened!

Yea...so it was an interesting car washing/fire experience!
